About Marc La Porte

Marc in Copenhagen

Hi, I’m Marc. I am a Dutch guy by birth and upbringing, but an American by heart (though never lived there). I am a born-again Christian since 1999, my spiritual language is English (I only recently, after almost ten years, bought my first Dutch bible – for the sole reason to just have one), and I am non-denominational to the core because there is only one body and I simply follow the Jesus from the Bible. Religion is for people who don’t get it, because it is the exact opposite of what Jesus taught.

Well, what else? I am a husband of a beautiful wife and I am the father of a beautiful daughter. In the forty spare hours of the week I am a Cisco certified Data Center Network Consultant.

I started this blog because I wanted to pick up journaling as a spiritual discipline, but also have a way to gather my thoughts on the Bible and develop my preaching and communication skills. I just love the Bible. My ultimate hero/teacher/preacher is of course Jesus, but other than that I love to listen to or read Mark Driscoll (I love his honesty in communication and his skill to make the Bible applicable to culture and every day life, he’s my prophet-type input), Chuck Missler (he’s my type of guy; a pure Bible teacher who wants to get to the bottom of things and sees the Bible than so much more than meets the eye. He is definitely bringing the world into focus through the lens of Scripture, he’s my king-type input) and John Piper (I absolutely love his passion for God and the Bible and the depth with which he approaches Scripture, and how he stays as close as possible to the Bible in everything he does, he’s my priest-type input).

I don’t have any problem offending you with the gospel for it is said, “Then the disciples came and said to [Jesus], ‘Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?’ But He answered and said, ‘Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.’” (Matthew 15:12-13), yet “an offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars” (Proverbs 18:19).”I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.” (1 Corinthians 9:23), “and even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing” (2 Corinthians 4:3).

In any case, I am honored that you visit my blog. Please look around, leave your comments, read what I have to say, but always be like the Bereans, “for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11).
